The IOC’s new Brisbane 2032 pathway prioritises global appeal, simplicity, athlete representation and sustainability. M8TT meets that moment with a nations-first format aligned with World Sailing Agenda 2030: exciting to watch, easier to access, fairer to race and built for a lower-impact Olympic future.

The M8TT at Brisbane 2032 will feature the world's top sailing nations competing in a team-based format. A total of 8 nations will qualify for the event. The host country, Australia, and the reigning World Champion, the winner of the SSL Gold Cup 2030, will automatically qualify. To ensure global representation, teams from each of the four continents of Asia, Africa, Europe and Oceania will qualify, together with one team from each of North and South America in the Pan-American region.
- Round Robin Round-robin racing over three days, with the final race awarding double points.
- Final Phase The top two from each fleet race for Olympic Gold, Silver and Bronze on the final day. 3rd and 4th placed teams from each fleet compete in Petit Final for 5-8 positions.
- Race Format 4-boat fleet races on a buoy-marked course using identical SAF47 boats.

Ever since I was a kid, I've dreamed of winning a gold medal at the SEA Games. To finally achieve it in the 470 with Navee Thamsoontorn, and then win a second gold for Thailand in the team event at the same Games… Thank you all the teammates who made this history possible. It's beyond anything I ever imagined.

I did 7 Olympics and won 5 individual medals including 2 Golds, which is an incredible achievement. But competing for Brazil as part of a national team at the Olympic Games would have been incredible too. Why not at Brisbane?

I grew up dreaming of Olympic glory. I won Gold in Tokyo and Paris, but in Brisbane I could have a double opportunity: individually and with my team of Aussie heroes. That would be the ultimate challenge.
